DANANG, 9 March 2016: Danang authorities plan to install more than 850 public cameras to improve safety in the city.

Tuoi Tre News reported that the Department of Police has submitted a document to the Party Standing Committee and chairman of the People’s Committee, proposing the instalment of an additional 857 cameras to monitor security and traffic in the city.

Cameras have already been installed in 126 locations. Of the total, 71 are managed by the Department of Police and the rest by the Department of Transport.

inside no 2The additional cameras will be positioned along major routes in the city prone to traffic congestion and areas where criminal activity is common, such as residential areas, near hotels and the bar district.

The cameras will be monitored by the Department of Police, Department of Transport, and Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Servers will also be placed at the offices of the People’s Committees in 11 communes and police stations in 45 wards in the city. Installation will be completed by 2017. There are already 4,745 cameras in the city.

Last year, Danang welcomed 4.7 million tourists, both domestic and international, a 22.4% year-on-year increase. The city’s tourism revenue reached USD566.96 million.
